Waukee heads into Friday’s basketball doubleheader on a strong note.

The Warrior girls own a 10-0 record and No. 4 ranking after a 74-37 victory over Marshalltown on Jan. 14. They have outscored opponents by an average of 23.4 points per game. That is the third best mark in Class 5A this season, and trails only Des Moines East (29.8) and Iowa City High (26.9).

Reilly Jacobson (16 points, 8.3 rebounds) and Taylor Wingert (13.0 points) have emerged as the biggest scoring threats, but freshman Carlie Littlefield has burst onto the scene as well. She’s averaging 9.6 points per game, and has posted four double-digit games already, including an 18-point outburst in Waukee’s 73-27 win over Ottumwa on Jan. 10.

The boys’ team has won five of its last six, most recently a 69-35 victory over Marshalltown, and has ascended to the No. 7 ranking in the most recent Iowa Radio poll. Michael Jacobson (17.3 points, 9.3 rebounds per game), Anthony Nelson (14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds) and Nate Gehring (11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds) present opponents with difficult matchups.
