MARSHALL, Texas – Freshman Jayme Perez, who is the granddaughter of Mary Jean Gebhardt of Van Meter, enjoyed her first year as a collegiate softball player to the fullest at East Texas Baptist University. In just this first year, she earned an All-American award, was named to the all-conference team, and helped ETBU to a Super Regional championship.

Perez was named to the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) All-American third-team for her play this season while also being a NFCA All-West Region first-team member. On May 7th, she was the NFCA’s NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week.

In the American Southwest Conference, she was voted onto the first-team and made the All-ASC Tournament team for her play. In the ASC Tournament, she hit five home runs in six games with two coming in her first at-bat. Her very first home run of the tournament came vs. Concordia-Texas on the second pitch of the first inning.

Helping ETBU to the NCAA Tournament, she made the NCAA Division III Tyler All-Regional team as the Tigers won all three games to advance to the Super Regional round. ETBU finished the year at 45-10 and were the Tyler Regional and Marshall Super Regional champions finishing fifth at the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. In the final NFCA NCAA Division III poll, ETBU was fourth and never dropped out of the top 10 the entire season.

Perez finished batting .365 with 12 home runs and 48 RBI along 13 doubles. She started 48 games playing in 55 and scored 42 times.
