There’s a reason the Van Meter baseball team is ranked No. 2 in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings. On Tuesday night the Bulldogs beat Guthrie Center at home by a score of 16-0 in a game that only lasted four innings.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning before exploding for 12 runs in the second inning.
Jacob Eslick went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, three stolen bases and three runs scored while also drawing one walk. Brandon Brittain hit his fourth homerun of the year on a 1-for-1 performance at the plate and also stole one base and drew two walks.
In the game before that, the Bulldogs defeated West Central Valley at home by a score of 10-1. Zach Forret went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the game.
Ben Engstrand got the win on the mound, pitching four innings and striking out six batters while surrendering only two hits.
The Bulldogs still have just one loss this season and that was back on June 3 at Principal Park against Twin Cedars, where they lost by a score of 3-1.
After playing at Martensdale-St. Marys on Wednesday, the Bulldogs travel to Urbandale on Thursday for a matchup with Des Moines Christian.
