The Van Meter softball team is 3-3 after a pair of big wins in its opening week.

The Bulldogs beat Nodaway Valley 6-1 and fell to Winterset 10-1 at Winterset’s tournament over the weekend. They also beat West Central Valley 14-4 on May 23, lost to Des Moines Roosevelt 13-0 on May 22 and topped Panorama 21-4 on May 21.

Senior Hope Connor was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs against WCV. Dion Shirley had four hits, scored twice and drove in three, and Ali Flaherty was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Casey Jamison and Leasha Porter each drove in two runs.

Ana Angel was 4-for-4 with a double, triple, four runs scored and five driven in against Panorama. Bailey Richards had three hits, three runs and three RBIs and Kila Carbine was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Porter added two hits and three RBIs.

Carbine struck out four, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over five innings.
