The Van Meter boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in the state qualifying meet in Van Meter on May 15, while the Woodward-Granger boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in the same event at Earlham. The Van Meter boys qualified for four events through the state qualifying meet while the girls qualified for two events, with the W-G boys qualifying for 10 events and the girls qualifying for four events.

Of the four events that the Bulldog boys qualified for, Brennan Dostal is in three of them. Dostal will participate in the 100 meter, the 200 meter and the 400 meter dash at the state meet this weekend while the boys 4x800 meter relay team also qualified for state.

The Van Meter girls 4x800 meter relay team qualified for state while Nicole Meyer of Van Meter qualified to compete in the high jump competition at state.

For the Woodward-Granger boys, Austin Oleson qualified for the 200 meter dash while Marshall Nieland qualified for the 400 meter dash. Derick Morgan qualified for the 3200 meter run while Kaleb Noel qualified for the 400 meter hurdles.

The W-G boys’ qualified for five relay races, only missing out on the 4x100 meter relay. Lane Kooiker from W-G qualified for the discus throw.

Abby Musser of W-G qualified for the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter hurdles with the W-G girls’ 4x800 meter relay team clinching its spot at the state meet.

The state track meet will begin this Thursday with Woodward-Granger participating in 1A competition, which begins at 9 a.m. and Van Meter competing in 2A competition, which begins at 2:40 p.m. at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
