Like Van Meter, the Woodward-Granger baseball team also got to play a game at Principal Park in Des Moines on Tuesday. Also, like the Bulldogs, the Hawks saw their undefeated record broken as they lost to Lynnville-Sully 11-9.
Dylan Garland, Alex Boderman and Marcus McConahay scored two runs each while Ben Krehbiel batted in two runs. Boderman started the game on the mound, but it was Jake Smiley who was credited with the loss after coming in the seventh inning and giving up five runs with the Hawks up 9-4.
The Woodward-Granger baseball team extended its season record to 2-0 with a 4-3 victory over Pleasantville in Granger on May 28 as they scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Alex Bodermann started the game but was pulled after five innings after giving up three runs on five hits while striking out three batters and walking three.
Jake Smiley pitched two innings and picked up his first win of the season, striking out four batters and walking just one while giving up no runs and no hits.
Race Brant went 1-for-3 at the plate and had two RBIs. Brant, Mike Connor, Bodermann and Ben Krehbiel scored runs for the Hawks.
