The Waukee softball team split a pair of games in Ottumwa on Friday, beating host Ottumwa 3-1 but falling to Pleasant Valley 7-4.

Kaitlyn Menz struck out 10, allowing just three hits against Ottumwa. Abby Krantz was 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored as the Warriors pushed across single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Kylie Mickelson homered and drove in three against Pleasant Valley as Waukee scored all four of its runs in the final two innings.

Waukee also won a pair of extra-innings games against Fort Dodge on June 19, beating the visiting Doders 7-4 and 6-5. The Warriors rallied for two runs in the seventh inning of game one, then pushed across four runs in the eighth inning to prevail. Taylor Luther homered and drove in three, Shaye Witte had three hits and both Nicole Tennant and Mickelson had two. Menz won, surrendering seven hits and striking out seven over eight innings.

Waukee took a 5-0 lead in game two, but Fort Dodge rallied for five runs of its own in the sixth. The Warriors, who won in the eighth, walked 10 times, including four by Callie Feaker, who also homered. Tennant was 4-for-5 with a home run and double, and Miranda Tiefenthaler walked three times.
