Emilee Anderson racked up 10 kills as Waukee swept Des Moines North 25-4, 25-15, 25-13 in a Class 5A regional opener on Monday.
Anderson hit at a .533 clip as the Warriors posted a .354 efficiency in a match that saw 15 Waukee players get playing time. Alex Smolik had five kills while Schylir Rowen and Denise Ssozi each had four. Danika Mikesh, Caroline Slaughter and Taylor Voorhees each contributed three.
Lauren Vespa racked up 20 assists and was a perfect 19-of-19 serving with four aces. Rowen had three aces on 7-of-7 serving and Morgan Potts was 15-of-16 serving with two aces, while adding a team-high 20 digs.
Waukee improved to 19-19 this season with the win, and will travel Thursday to West Des Moines for a semifinal matchup with No. 9 Dowling Catholic (28-8).
The Maroons started the season 17-1, but ended the regular season with five losses in its final nine matches. Jessi Henter, a former Waukee player, is second on the team with 363 assists, and fourth with 136 kills.
Waukee ended the regular season with nine losses in its final 12 matches. The two teams haven’t met this season. Dowling won the only meeting last year.
