Waukee logged two wins in five matches at Johnston’s tournament on Oct. 19.

The Warriors beat Webster City 21-15, 21-18, and Osklaloosa 25-20, 25-15. They lost to Marshalltown, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12; Ames, 21-18, 21-19; and Urbandale, 21-12, 22-20, 15-9.

Denise Ssozi and Emilee Anderson led a balanced offensive attack with 26 kills apiece. Anderson added eight blocks. Schylir Rowen finished with 13 kills, Erin Bramble added 12 kills and seven blocks and Peyton Evers contributed 12 kills, as well as four aces against Urbandale. Lauren Vespa finished with 45 assists, and Gabby Magee contributed 35.

Waukee wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-21 loss at Ankeny. Bramble had a team-high six kills, Anderson finished with five, and both Ssozi and Everys had four. Magee added 12 assists and four aces.

The Warriors play host to Des Moines North in a Class 5A Region 2 semifinal on Oct. 28. The winner will advance to face No. 7 Dowling Catholic, a state qualifier from a year ago.
