The Waukee boys’ cross country team laid claim to another meet victory on Tuesday, taking the top spot at West Des Moines Valley’s Tom Karpan Invitational.
Waukee took four of the top six spots and cruised to a 29-56 victory over Ames. Ryan Tunink (16:24), Brennan Borgestad (16:42), and Noah Larrison (16:52) finished second, third and fourth. Mohad Awan was sixth in 16:55, and Henry Oberman’s 17:26, good for 14th place, locked in the best team score in the 14-team field. Also running were Kevin Kato, who was 18th in 17:30, and Nathan Schaffer, who was 22nd in 17:37.
The Warrior girls finished second with a score of 69 behind Ames’ 38. Erika Lewis was fifth in 15:15, Rachel Brush (15:39) and Jordan Allen (15:41) were 12th and 13th, Maggie Laird was 19th in 15:53 and Bri Young was 20th in 15:54. Kayla Sabotin (21st) and Maggie Anderson (31st) completed the lineup.
The Warrior boys also won the Bobcat Invitational crown in Marshalltown on Sept. 12.
The Warriors had four of the top 13 finishes and just a 29-second spread to finish with 54 points, edging Cedar Falls’ 66 and Dowling Catholic’s 74.
Tunink and Borgestad finished fifth and sixth in 16:14 and 16:18. Larrison was 11th in 16:26, Austin Krohnke was 13th in 16:30 and Awan finished 19th in 16:43. Schaffer (33rd in 17:06) and Oberman (37th in 17:11) rounded out the lineup.
The Waukee girls finished third with a score of 80, behind Dowling Catholic (57) and Pleasant Valley (57). Rachel Brush and Erika Lewis finished side-by-side in 15:27 for eighth and ninth place. Kayla Sabotin was 14th in 15:36, Maggie Laird was 24th in 15:55 and Jordan Allen 25th in 15:56. Taylor Tornberg (38th) and Bri Young (39th) also ran for the Warriors.
