The Waukee volleyball team went 2-2 in action at Ames’ tournament on Aug. 31.
The Warriors beat South Hamilton 21-18, 23-21, aided by a five-kill match from junior Taylor Voorhees. Schylir Rowen added four kills and seven digs, and Danika Mikesh had eight digs. Gabby Magee finished with nine assists.
Waukee also beat Lewis Central in three sets, 21-15, 16-21, 17-15. Rowen and Emilee Anderson each had six kills, and Denis Ssozi added five. Ssozi and Mikesh each had three aces and Lauren Vespa logged 10 assists.
The Warriors dropped decisions to Ankeny Centennial (25-9, 25-21) and Ames (8-21, 21-19, 15-17). They recorded 15 kills against Centennial, including six by Anderson, and got 10 digs from libero Morgan Potts. Ssozi had a team-high six kills agianst Ames, while Rowen and Anderson each had five. Potts had a team-high 17 digs and Vespa recorded 12 assists.
Dallas Center-Grimes won two of its five matches in Ames, a 20-25, 25-21, 15-11 win over Pella Christian and a 25-22, 28-26 victory over IKM-Manning. The Fillies lost to Ames (25-20, 25-16), Bishop Heelan (21-11, 21-16) and Cedar Falls (21-9, 21-8). Individual statistics were not available at press time.
DC-G returns to action Sept. 10 at Pella Christian. Waukee, which also dropped a three-set match to Johnston on Tuesday, travels to Fort Dodge on Sept. 10.
