The Waukee volleyball team went 2-2 at Southeast Polk’s tournament in Pleasant Hill on Sept. 14.
The Warriors beat Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Des Moines Roosevelt in straight sets and lost to Ankeny Centennial and Urbandale.
The team’s 21-19, 21-14 win against Jefferson was punctuated by an eight-kill effort from sophomore Denise Ssozi, who hit .533 for the match. Emilee Anderson added six kills, while Gabby Magee and Lauren Vespa combined for 16 assists. Danika Mikesh and Morgan Potts each had five digs.
Waukee hit .304 to beat the Roughriders 21-15, 21-15. Ssozi had five kills, three digs and three blocks. Anderson and Taylor Voorhees each had three kills.
Ssozi and Erin Bramble each had seven kills in a 27-25, 15-12, 6-15 loss to Centennial. Vespa had 11 assists and Voorhees added four kills.
Waukee managed just 12 kills in a 25-5, 25-20 loss to Urbandale. Caroline Slaughter had three, while Vespa had seven assists and two aces.
The Warriors host a tournament on Saturday in Waukee. The field includes Ankeny, Bedford, Indianola, Iowa Christian Academy, Des Moines Lincoln, Madrid, Stanton, Urbaldae, West Des Moines Valley, West Marshall and Panorama. Play begins at 8 a.m.
