Sweet Corn ready for the pickin’
When several thousand visitors flock into Adel for this weekend’s Sweet Corn Festival, Ron Deardorff’s part in the preparations will be finished.
For nearly two-thirds of the festival’s 32 years, Deardorff has furnished the sweet corn for the event and this year visitors will devour 7-1/2 tons of corn grown on the Deardorff farm just west of Adel.
Organizers don’t take Deardorff’s contribution to the success of the festival lightly.
