Summer is in full swing, which means the Fourth of July festivities are just around the corner. Here’s a full list of everything going on in the surrounding areas this Fourth of July:
The Minburn area will have a Fourth of July parade starting at 9 a.m. with registration and lineup beginning at 7:30 a.m. Afterwards there will be various vendors, horse shoes, inflatables and live music in Meek Park from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a free-will donation dinner at the Meek Park shelter from 5:30 - 7 p.m., followed by a fireworks show at dusk located over the high school ball field.
As always, Perry will kick off the day of celebrations with the parade taking place at 10 a.m. on Willis Avenue. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti said there is no fee or sign-up required for the parade. Those interested in having a float in the parade should start lining up at 9 a.m. in the East Perry Plaza.
Following the parade, Showtime Dance Studio will be performing at the Patte Park Band Shell beginning at 12:30 p.m. Al Welsh Orchestra will take over at 1:30 p.m. followed by Catfish Charlie at 6 p.m.
There will also be various vendors located in Patte Park throughout the day.
The Perry Fine Arts Series will present Grand Ave Ruckus, a New Orleans-style jazz band, at 2 p.m. in First United Methodist of Perry, 1100 3rd St. A homemade ice cream social will follow the concert.
At dusk The Perry Chamber has planned to sponsor a fireworks show for all in attendance.
The Waukee area will have a day full of activities as well. The Boy Scout Troop 178 fun run will commence at 8 a.m. with a one mile kids run and a 5K fun run. A registration fee is required of all those wishing to run the race. All other events are free to the public.
The parade will start later that day at 3 p.m. and will travel through Historic Downtown. Registration for the parade is not required and those who wish to participate should arrive at 2 p.m. at the Vince Meyer Learning Center.
The parade will end at Centennial Park where all are welcome to enjoy live music, inflatables and food vendors. The band Mud Dogs will perform in the evening followed by a fireworks show after the sun goes down.
