WAUKEE - People can register to vote at the Waukee Public Library through September 30 as the library is extending its National Voter Registration Day efforts. More than 3,000 partners nationwide will celebrate the national day on Sept. 25, but the voter registration table will remain open all month at the library, located at 950 Warrior Lane in Waukee.
This is part of a massive 50-state effort to register thousands of voters. All forms will be mailed to the Dallas County Auditor on Oct. 1. Stickers will be provided to those who sign up, while supplies last.
“With so many new residents moving into our community, we felt it was important to offer a location where residents can easily register to vote to be part of the next election cycle,” said Library Director, Kristine Larson.
The goal for this year’s annual National Voter Registration Day is to increase participation in the 2018 midterm and state elections across the country by encouraging Americans to register to vote and make their voices heard at the ballot box. While presidential elections get the media attention, midterm elections are a chance for voters to not only impact how their state is run, but how their state is represented in the Federal government. Since its founding in 2012, National Voter Registration Day has grown into a massive cultural and civic event with nationwide reach.
As a nonpartisan unofficial national holiday, National Voter Registration Day counts on thousands of partners and volunteers across the political spectrum. Started in 2012 for the presidential election, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right - the right to vote.
