On September 26, 2018 at approximately 6:40PM Dallas County Dispatch took a report of a male driving a blue dirt bike and a female driving a red four-wheeler in Minburn. A Dallas County Deputy went to the area and located the dirt bike and four wheeler on the Raccon River Trail heading northwest out of Minburn. The Deputy began a pursuit of the dirt bike and the four-wheeler on the bike trail on the north side of Minburn. The four-wheeler split off from the dirt bike and the Deputy continued to pursue the dirt bike.

Other Deputies from Dallas County, Boone County, and Perry Police Department began to assist in the pursuit. The pursuit went on and off the bike trail and on and off of gravel roads north of Minburn before the driver eventually circled back and went south on the bike trail back towards Minburn.

The driver of the dirt bike exited the bike trail at the Heartland Co-Op. A Dallas County Deputy was in the Heartland Co-op and the driver of the dirt bike ran into the rear passenger side of the Dallas County Deputy’s patrol vehicle. The driver was injured in the accident and transported by Dallas County EMS to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with unknown injuries. The driver was conscious and alert before he left the scene of the accident.

The pursuit lasted approximately 16 minutes and speeds topped out at 65 miles per hour.

This investigation is still on-going and charges are pending the results of follow up investigation and lab results. The name of the driver of the dirt bike is not being released at this time, as the case is still open. More information will be released when available.
