The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce recently announced the nominees for the 2018 Business and Citizen of the Year Awards. The awards will be presented during the chamber’s annual dinner on Monday, Feb. 11.
Chamber businesses and members of the Adel community nominated a number of business and citizens of the year. The Celebrate Adel committee narrowed those down to the top three for each category.
The three business of the year nominees include Country Lane Lodge, Adel HealthMart and Adel Dental Group.
The citizen of the year nominees include Paul (Mike) and Jackie Giles, Val Sutton and Paula James.
“We had probably our best group of nominees this year,” said Director Deb Bengtson. “There were very compelling reasons for all six of them to be given the award.”
The first business of the year nominee is Country Lane Lodge. Bengtson said owner Kendra Kasischke moved to Adel from Wisconsin with the idea of building an event center.
She’s brought new jobs to the community, she brought a new tax base to the community and she brought something to the community that we really needed,” she said.
And what the town needed, Bengtson added, was a larger venue space. One of the chamber’s biggest struggles was finding a location large enough to host Celebrate Adel. The event had previously been held at Harmony Hall, but Bengtson realized the annual dinner couldn’t grow there as they had maxed out the space.
“So she brought a great venue in,” Bengtson said of Kasischke.
The second business of the year nominee is Adel HealthMart. Bengtson said owner Jane Clausen was nominated, in part, because how long she has been a member of the Adel community.
Clausen gives back to the community through the Adel Rotary, spearheading the Rotary Warm Coat drive and water sales at the Sweet Corn Festival.
“She’s very involved in keeping the Adel HealthMart front and center in people’s minds,” Bengtson said. “It’s not just a pharmacy, it’s a place where you can walk in and get your cards and you can buy little gifts.”
The last business of the year nominee is Adel Dental Group. The business recently built a new building, and kept their existing business.
“Not only are they adding to the taxbase, they created something really nice along Highway 169 and improved our commercial vitality,” Bengtson said.
She added that the business also recently added an orthodontist to keep patients from needing to travel out of the community. Adel Dental Group has also provided mouth guards for all of the ADM football players. They have also given back by donating oral hygeine products to several missions, groups, fundraisers and benefits.
The 2018 Business of the Year will be announced during the annual dinner, Celebrate Adel, on Monday, Feb. 11. Social hour starts at 5 p.m., with the program starting at 6:30 p.m.
The event will feature a Taste of Adel with around 11 different local restaurants offering various featured items.
The dinner is open to the public, though Bengtson said it’s one of the best attended events by chamber members. Tickets can be purchased at www.adelpartners.org.
