Started by Brent Haverkamp, Haverkamp Properties, Inc. is a locally owned property management company based out of Ames. The corporation currently has several mutilfamily and commercial properties spread across the state of Iowa including Ames, Cedar Rapids, Ankeny and the Des Moines area.

However, the new Waukee Attivo Trail senior living community is the first of its kind for Haverkamp Properties.

“Waukee is a vibrant, growing community. It’s also a great place to retire and be close to family that live in the Des Moines metro,” Marketing Director of Haverkamp Properties, Inc Jessica Mortvedt said. “The location is in a beautiful neighborhood close to stores, healthcare and lots of activities.”

Located in between Hickman and Douglas just off Alice’s Road, Attivo Trail is a senior living community designed for residents aged 55 and older. The senior living community currently offers five different floor plans for one and two bedroom apartments and has approximately 200 apartments on the property. These apartments are pet friendly and come with everyday features and appliances along with community amenities such as a clubhouse, fitness center, indoor pool and putting green to name a few.

“One other important thing to note, many communities similar to ours require large buy-ins with high monthly costs. We only require a small deposit and monthly rent. Our lease terms are 6 to 24 months. That means when you are ready to move out, you have nothing to sell,” Mortvedt said.

In addition to its amenities, Attivo Trail has also entered into a partnership with Home Instead after meeting through the Waukee Chamber of Commerce.

“Attivo Trail had already done the leg work of designing and building a beautiful independent living complex, giving residents a perfect setting to relax with friends and live free of the day to day upkeep of a private residence. But what if an injury or illness prompts the need for more care? Home Instead can be the answer for those lingering questions,” Amy Alden of Home Instead in Waukee said.

Home Instead, Inc. was founded in Omaha during the mid 1990’s after Paul and Lori Hogan realized from personal experience the growing need for the in-home care help when caring for a loved one. The company began franchising shortly after with the network growing to over 1,000 franchises across the world including the location in Waukee. Services of Home Instead range from meal preparation to medication management and even respite care for those with cognitive decline.

“Home Instead Senior Care provides compassionate, professional, and reliable supportive home care services that keep their clients safe and independent wherever they call home,” Mortvedt said.

Residents of the senior living community began moving into Attivo Trail this past month. For Ronnie and Mary Buck moving into the living community was a way to not only connect with others but to also help relieve some of the heavy lifting that comes with owning your own home.

“Owning your own home is okay when you’re young. But when you’re mowing the lawn and climbing up on the roof and cleaning out leaves from the gutter and painting and maintenance and all that, it’s not that easy,” Ronnie Buck said during an interview with Attivo Trail.

Coming up, the Attivo Trail senior living community will acquire an event bus to take residents on group outings such as the mall or baseball games. The living community also hosts Wake up Wednesdays every Wednesday morning where potential residents can enjoy a continental breakfast from 8-8:30 and then tour and talk with other current residents.
