As a graduate of Adel-Desoto-Minburn, Dylan Book first began competing in dirt track racing back in 2009. Book later went on to receive an associates degree from DMACC before pursuing classes at Minnesota State. However, it wasn’t long before he decided to focus on his racing career full time.
“One of my best friends got me into racing in 2009. I was a rookie and I had never raced anything before that,” Book said, “Then, after I got the national championship that first year, I picked up more sponsors.
As a racer, Book not only finished second in national points in 2013 but also won the 2009 IMCA National Rookie Championship and the 2016 Adams County Speedway Track Championship. It was also during his time as a racer when Book first gained interest in starting and growing his own detailing business.
“I was talking with one of my sponsors in racing and I told him I’d like to create some products for racing. That got me started with a chemist down in Missouri,” Book said.
Book first created the company BigDeal Car Care by selling detailing products out of his garage. The business quickly grew, and Book was not only able to expand into detailing cars but also open his first location. Now, less than two years later, BigDeal Car Care has once again reopened at a larger facility located at 27836 Fairground Road.
A ribbon cutting for the new facility was held on Saturday, June 15 by the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce.
“I started working full time for BigDeal out of the garage in my house. Then I got in with Amazon, sold on Ebay and that got us to be able to open a location in Adel in 2018. I decided to bring in detailing as well. We outgrew that location fast and moved here in January 2019,” Book said.
Today, BigDeal Car Care has grown to include 8-10 detailers, a full time salesman, an office manager, a detail manager and two office assistants. The company currently details approximately 40-60 dealership and consumer vehicles per week and ships anywhere between 10-20 packages of product per week.
In addition, BigDeal Car Care offers a range of about 24 different types of products that help both dealerships and consumers turn a dirty car into a clean one. The company also sells a special line of products for the racing community and even provides private labeling on some of their speciality products.
“On the detailing side we provide everything from interior to exterior work,” Book said. “Our products are also 100 percent water based. They are biodegradable and eco-friendly.”
While Book’s business aspirations continue to grow, he credits the Adel community with making him the successful person that he is today.
“In 2009 I was involved in an accident. After that accident, the community held a fundraiser and they raised enough money to pay for all my treatments,” Book said. “The community of Adel has done a lot for me and has brought me to where I am today.”
Book continuously works to repay the favor whenever he can. He not only helps sponsor local events and sports teams but also aids in local fundraisers.
“We give back quite a bit of our profits to the community. We do stuff with the sweet corn festival and the car festivals in town. We also do a lot of fundraiser stuff. I’m a big believer of fundraisers because of how the community helped me,” Book said.
Going forward Book hopes to continue to grow both his detailing and product business. He is currently working to sell his products in both Canada and Mexico along with potentially other international markets. Book is also working to open two additional detailing locations within the next five years.
“The goal is to open doors internationally. But we have only been in business since 2016. So, we are pretty small on a national scale,” Book said.
Book currently resides in Adel with his wife and nine-month-old son. He also continues to race though not as much as he used to due to the fact he is focusing on growing his business.
