A large crowd gathered to shuck corn for the 40th year of the Adel Sweet Corn Festival on Friday, Aug. 9.

Kids, parents, families, friends, community members and others helped shuck around seven tons of sweet corn. The corn will be handed out for free at 11 a.m. following the annual parade until it’s gone.

Adel’s Sweet Corn Festival will kick off bright and early with the 5K at 8 a.m., followed by the parade at 9:30 a.m. Other activities include a car show, kids inflatables, live music and more.

The Dallas County ISU Extension and Outreach will celebrate 100 years during a special presentation at 12:30 p.m. on the Main Stage.
