Movies in the Park

7:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at Waukee Centennial Park, 1255 Warrior Lane.

Movies in the Park is FREE and provides an abundance of fun. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments, and get ready to make memories with family and friends. The Sept. 20 movie is “Hidden Figures.”

Apple Festival

10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Penoach Winery, Adel.

It is apple time again! The Apple Festival at Penoach Winery will feature free wine tastings, wine, beer, apple winearitas and $1 apple juice for the kids. There will be over 20 vendors with unique handmade items and yummy foods. Food vendors include Billie’s Ice Cream, Ferinheit Wood Oven Pizza and more. Dallas County Orchard will be here with their apples. Brick ‘n Bob will play from 1-5 p.m. The event will also feature tractor and wagon rides around the vineyard, marshmallow roasting, weather permitting and face painting for kids. Admission is free, no cover charge, but please bring a donation of cash, check, or non-perishable food to the winery. The donations will be given to the local Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

Rock’N Saturday

4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Stage and Pavilion, 10th and Main Street, Adel.

Come enjoy our Rock ‘n’ SATURDAY on Sept. 21 with music by Red Dirt Renegade. This FREE event is a perfect way to spend your Saturday evening with friends and family AND our great community. Don’t forget to bring your own chairs and drinks!

Waukee Crime Stoppers Golf Outing

Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Waukee’s Sugar Creek Golf Course.

The Annual Waukee Crime Stoppers Golf Outing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25. The cost for this event is $60 per person ($240 per team). This price includes 18 holes of golf, two riding carts per team and lunch served at the course. Grimes Community Breakfast

6:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Grimes Community Complex, 410 SE Main St.

The Grimes Lions Club invites the community to join them for a free-will donation breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 28. Breakfast proceeds allow the club to donate money to many community organizations. One of the Grimes Lions Club’s favorite donations is the $500 scholarships they present to four DC-G graduating seniors.

Arboretum Amble

1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Forest Park Museum.

Learn the history of the arboretum on a guided amble through the trees and shrubs planted on the grounds of Forest Park Museum. You might see specimens you never thought to look for in central Iowa! Weather permitting. Pre-registration appreciated for this free program, 641-465-3577.

High Trestle Hawk Watch

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 at High Trestle Trail overlook.

Come join several “hawkers” as they watch the river of raptors move south along the Des Moines River. They will be helping new and experienced birders identify the birds as they pass by. Viewing will be on the west overlook on the Woodward side of the High Trestle Bridge. Parking is on the east side off of QF in Boone County. A half mile walk on level ground is required.
