A dedication ceremony for the Dallas County Freedom Rock will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Minburn.

The freedom rock was completed by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen earlier this summer. The rock is located south of the Ninteen14 bar and grill along Highway 169 in Minburn.

One side features the five Wilson brothers. All five of the brothers went into the service during World War II, and only two came home. The other side of the rock features Nile Kinnick, of Adel, and Bob Feller, of Van Meter. Both individuals are Dallas County veterans, in addition to being sports figures.

The Minburn American Legion Post 99 has continued work on the freedom rock throughout the summer. A flag pole was installed and sidewalks were poured around the rock. Other projects include landscaping, adding lights and a story board.

The dedication ceremony will showcase the Dallas County Freedom Rock. A reception will be held in Meek Park following the ceremony.
