Superintendent Greg Dufoe tweeted, “This makes me sad.” One of the students had made the statement, “If we could have just one more day of high school.” This student is learning about life—we sometimes don’t know what we really have until it is taken away from us. However, true Iowans are making the best of our situation and will come out of this unusual time even stronger having found ways to cope that we never thought we would or could do.
The faculty at Adel DeSoto Minburn High School are still at work and this month have recognized the following senior students for outstanding achievement in specific areas. Our local businesses (although some may be closed at the present time) will still make a contribution to the ADM Scholarship Foundation to honor these students. The following students have attained this recognition for April.
Student of the Month: Sam Fouts — Raccoon Valley Bank and Core Physical Therapy
Kiwanis: Cameron While and Anna Walls — Kiwanis and Patrick’s Restaurant
Fine Arts: (Play) Olivia Klassen (Onstage Support) and Mikki VerWoert (Backstage Support) — Lincoln Savings Bank and Adel Health Mart
Since all sports have been canceled, we have no athletes of the month to recognize.
All the contributions given to the Foundation are invested and the income is used to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of the ADM School District going on to post-secondary education. The ADM Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors will be giving out scholarships to well deserving 2020 Seniors along with announcing the Nile Kinnick, Eric Cutler and Stan Norenberg award winners.
Over $650,000 has been given in scholarships since the Foundation’s inception in 1985. More information may be found at the website www.admscholarshipfoundation.com or you may contact a board member listed on the site.
