When Radiant Complexions Dermatology was first founded back in 2002, Dr. Charles Love made it his mission to improve access to high-quality dermatology services. Now, nearly two decades later, his business has grown to include 14 clinics throughout the central Iowa region, including the most recent opening of its Grimes location at the beginning of the year.

“While Grimes is a community that is growing quickly, dermatology services are in short supply. When space became available on Hwy 141, we jumped at the chance to provide medical and cosmetic dermatology services to Grimes residents,” Radiant Complexions Dermatology Clinics Director of Marketing Matthew Meyer said.

The new Grimes clinic currently employs two full-time staff members and offers both medical and cosmetic services. Robin Westrum, an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, not only has experience caring for patients in the urgent care setting but has also completed an extensive fellowship at the Iowa Dermatology Clinic in West Des Moines.

Hallie Baurichter, on the other hand, is a licensed esthetician with 10 years experience providing skin care services as well as instructing new estheticians. She is also certified in microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

“It’s our goal to provide high-quality dermatology in Grimes and remove any barriers that prevent patients from being seen,” Meyer said. “We are committed to building strong community partnerships by offering free on-site skin cancer screenings for local employer groups with 50 or more employees.”

Typically, Radiant Complexions Dermatology offers services such as microneedling, treatment of broken blood vessels, acne scaring, and more. However, with the impact of COVID-19, the clinic had been limiting its services to urgent dermatology conditions prior to Friday, May 8. The clinic is also spacing out appointments in order to reduce person-to-person contact and is offering virtual appointments for patients wishing to visit with a provider from the convenience of their home.

“Dermatology may seem like a nonessential service during this time to many people, but for those with severe skin conditions or children with painful rashes, the need is very real. Providing urgent dermatology services for our patients either in-person or through virtual visits helps relieve stress from urgent care and emergency facilities,” Meyer said.

Meyer also said that skin cancer remains the most common cancer in the United States, with 1 in 5 Americans developing skin cancer by the age of 70. This makes clinics, such as Radiant Complexions Dermatology, and early detection important for community members who may one day develop cancer.

“The American Cancer Society recommends annual skin cancer screenings,” Meyer said. “When detected early, the five-year survival rate of melanoma is 99 percent.”

The new Radiant Complexions Dermatology clinic in Grimes is located at 1895 SE Grimes Blvd and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested in making an appointment can contact the clinic via email or call the facility directly.
