James Woodvine

James Woodvine, 75, son of Keith Charles & Ursula Noami (Pittman) Woodvine, was born March 11, 1946 in Perry, Iowa. He passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at The New Homestead, Guthrie Center, Iowa.

He graduated from Panora-Linden High School in 1965. On August 6, 1966, he married Donna Ganoe at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Panora, Iowa. To this union four sons were born.

Jim held farming in the highest regards and did so along side his father for many years.

He was most known for opening Woodvine Service in 1968, a full service gas station located on Highway 44 & the Linden corner.

Here friends and neighbors could stop in for a gallon of gasoline, shop an array of bait and tackle products, get a tire change, or a bag of seed corn. Most who came opted to stay for a good story.

In the early 80's Jim built a giant alcohol still and produced 100% fuel alcohol or ethanol as we now know it. Jim later participated in an alcohol drive in Nebraska in a 1963 Ford pickup he modified to use his own fuel in. He won his division and was admired in his field.

Due to changing government regulations, Jim closed Woodvine Service in 1992.

He then started attending estate auctions where he reinvented himself as a seller of antiques and collectibles.

He loved hunting down wall pockets, lightning rods and balls, indian artifacts and anything that fascinated him, but he mostly did it for the people and stories.

Jim was also an excellent welder and fabricated dozens of utility trailers that all found a happy home around Guthrie and Dallas County.

Jim is survived by his wife Donna; sons, Jay (Dorothy), Michael, Kevin (Eli), and Kelly; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Miller and Deborah (Jim) Stephens; and brother John Woodvine. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 17, 2021 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Panora. Burial will be in West Linn Cemetery, near Linden. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church.

The Woodvine family is requesting any memorials to be made to the Linden Public Library, Panora Public Library or to the church.

Twigg Funeral Home, Panora, is entrusted with his services.
