Helen Elaine Rolston Rohrer slipped peacefully into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ early on July 4, 2022 as she listened to her husband of 59 years reading to her from the Song of Solomon.
Elaine was born on May 5, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carl and Suzie Rolston. Following the untimely death of her mother in 1939, Carl married Mary Calhoun, who was a wonderful, loving stepmother. Elaine spent her childhood on the farm and in Redfield and attended grammar and high school in Redfield’s three-story brick school building, graduating in 1952.
Elaine was graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Business Education in 1957 and began her teaching career in Exira. Answering the call of adventure, she moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1959 to begin a 30-year career of teaching and counseling in Nevada, where she retired in 1991.
Elaine married Bill Rohrer, also a business education teacher, on June 22, 1963. They had two children: a son Jeff and a daughter Julie. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling, attending social events at church and school, and helping anyone from students to family to casual acquaintances.
Active in many organizations, Elaine won “The Rose of Recognition” award in Delta Kappa Gamma. She served as president of that organization as well as her P.E.O. Chapter Z. Elaine was also an active member of Nevada Retired School Employees Association, Retired Public Employees of Nevada, and Gideons International. She was a member of the Sparks Home Church of the Nazarene.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Dr. William H. Rohrer, Sparks, NV; her son Jeff and wife Katherine Rohrer, Carson City, NV; her daughter Julie and husband Jim Seilhymer, Sparks, NV; her brother and his family, Harold and Mary Rolston, Redfield, IA; nephews Steve, Jim and Richard Rolston; nieces Lori Rolston, Sue Thera, and Eileen Cote.
A memorial service will be held at the Home Church of the Nazarene, Sparks, Nevada at 10:00 am on July 23, 2022.
