Dear Editor,

Be sure to stop by the Adel Library on Friday, December 7 for these two events.

The Crafts and Author Fair is from 2 to 6 p.m. so come visit with authors and crafters and buy something for the Holiday Open House with Santa and Mrs. Claus between 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for pictures.

The silent auction is nearly over and besides many interesting baskets, there is a painting titled “Courthouse Square”, the only Early American style I have seen of Adel, by the late Earl Rogers. It is 20” by 30” and would be a great addition to any home or office.

Those of us born and/or raised in this area will recognize buildings long gone, such as the Rialto Theater. The newsreels of WWII before the movie brought the fighting right into our life and it also introduced us to cartoons. How many of you saw “Bambi” at the Rialto?

The Adel Library Foundation does these fundraisers to help buy items much needed so I leave you with this thought by Finley Peter Dunne (1910): “Th’ first thing to have in a libry is a shelf. Fr’m time to time this can be decorated with lithrachure. But th’ shelf is th’ main thing.”

See you at the Library.
