The Van Meter Bulldogs boys basketball team remains undefeated after a conference match-up against the Panorama Panthers. The Bulldogs brought home the 57-37 win last Friday (Jan. 26).

The Bulldogs immediately came out of the gate with a strong lead. The Bulldogs ended the first quarter with an eight points lead (12-4). The Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 18-8 in the second quarter to get the 30-12 lead at half. The Panthers finally put up double digits in the third quarter and outscored the Bulldogs. They were only able to outscore them by one point though, and the third quarter ended 43-26. The Bulldogs put up another 14 points in the fourth quarter while the Panthers had just 11, ending the game in a 20 point difference.

Senior Mitch Pomeroy was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer. He made six of his nine three pointers to score all 18 of his points.

Ryan Schmitt was the second leading scorer for the Bulldogs. Schmitt scored 14 points from five field goals and four free throws. Schmitt led the team in rebounds as well. He finished the night with ten rebounds, five offensive and five defensive. He also had four of the Bulldogs’ five blocks.

The Bulldogs had a total of 14 assists during the game. Schmitt and Ian Abrahamson tied with three a piece.

With only four steals for the Bulldogs the entire game, JJ Durflinger led with two. The last two steals came from Pomeroy and Jack Trudo.

The Bulldogs play again on Jan. 30 in Ogden at 7:15 p.m.
