The high school basketball season may be finished in terms of games played but recent accolades by local hoops athletes keep a great 2017-18 season still fresh in the minds of many.

Last week, Iowa Print Sports Writers Association released their first ever girls state basketball All-State team sprinkled with a few local high school hoops stars Jenna Borchers of Dallas Center-Grimes and Anna Brown of Waukee.

The class 4A All-State team was blessed with Dallas Center-Grimes senior standout Jenna Borchers who landed on the 4A second team list. Borchers has been a star ever since she hit the hardwood in a Dallas Center-Grimes uniform and her senior season proved to be a great finale to a wonderful career. The writing was pretty much on the wall for Borchers to obtain statewide recognition just entering the season let alone a standout year where she dropped 380 points, landing her in elite company of 1,000 point scorers.

The talented senior showcased her versatility in bulk for the 2017-18 season entering the top-15 in class 4A for points per game (10th), steals (11th), 3-pointers made (12th), and field goals made (14th) when all was said and done. The senior ended the season shooting 44 percent on field goal attempts while solid from the free throw line at 77 percent. Borchers’s points-per-game mark of 17.3 marked the highest of her career and helped her to reach 1,177 points in her high school basketball career.

Brown, a second-team selection showcased a similar year to Borchers pouring in 381 points in her first stint at the varsity level. Her big claim to statewide fame came from beyond the arc as nearly 62 percent of Brown’s points came from 3-point land.

Brown was more than just the 3-point queen, connecting on an impressive 43 percent from field goal range along with a mark of 76.3 percent from the free throw line. The junior added 56 assists, 22 steals and 123 rebounds to the mix in what was a well played 2017-18 campaign. Brown will be one of five seniors for next seasons roster.
