The boys’ soccer squad hosted the state champion Norwalk Warriors Tuesday in the annual season opening scrimmage.

The scrimmage was broken up into multiple sessions and the opening session belonged to the freshmen. The Tiger freshmen posed a little more inexperienced than their Norwalk counter parts yet came out on top anyway with a 2-0 win. Both goals came early on and off the foot of Wade Forret. Logan Krantz and Derrick Lee shared the shut out.

The second session involved the two JV squads and similar to the freshmen story line, the Tiger JV squad was comparatively inexperienced yet came out with a decisive 5-0 win. Bryce Holm completed his night with a hat trick of three goals. Kyle Irwin added a pair of goals to the mix as well with solid assists from Dalton Hews and Justin Schumacher. Zach Fuller, Conner Chapel and Charles Craigmile shared the goalkeeping duties.

The varsity squads took part in a defensive battle where the home town Tigers came out on top 1-0. The lone goal came off of the foot of last years’ leading scorer Eli Schwarzkopf just before half time. TJ Klocke certainly made his bid for starting goal keeper after shutting down the defending champs for no goals scored.

After the A-D-M head coach Bill Shields noted as the game wore on he saw his team pick up confidence and maintained good ball possession, both of which were a few of the focal points heading into the scrimmage. Coach also mentioned how he saw promise within his midfield group.

Next on the docket for A-D-M will be a Freshman/JV double header on Friday welcoming in Des Moines East to A-D-M stadium. The freshmen contest will begin at 5:30 pm with the JV match to follow at 6:45.

As for the official curtain raiser to the 2018 season, A-D-M will open things up at home in a Tigers squared match up on Monday, April 2nd as they welcome in Carroll for a 7 pm match.

The Tigers next host Des Moines East on Friday in a Freshman/JV doubleheader on the ADM Stadium.

Carroll are the visitors for the first conference games on Monday, April 2nd.
