Nine top five finishes highlighted a fifth place finish for the A-D-M boys track team in the curtain raiser to the 2018 outdoor campaign.

The setting took place in Winterset and the Tigers were up against a 13 team field including conference foes, Carlisle, and host Winterset. The rest of the 13 included Clarke, Creston Community, Greene County, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Mount Ayr, Nevada, Nodaway Valley, Norwalk, Woodward Academy, and Woodward-Granger.

Three first place winners came from A-D-M with two first place relay events and one individual first place winner. Individually, it was Lucas Heitz who paced the Tigers accounting for a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles (57.62 seconds), a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (15.92 seconds), all while helping the distance medley relay win first place at 3:48.91. The rest of the distance medley team was comprised of Trey Volz, Colton Pritle and West Central Valley transfer Rylan Heffernan.

The team relay success extended to the 4x400 meter relay team of Tate Stine-Smith, Rylan Heffernan, Gustavs Klavis, and Trey Volz who collectively took first with a time of 3:39.80. A-D-M’s 4x800 meter relay team of Rylan Heffernan, Dylan Baker, Gustavs Klavis, and Braeden Hegarty missed out on the top spot by less than two seconds coming in at 8:46.98.

Other notable finishes included Gustavs Klavis taking third in the 400 meter dash (55.02 seconds), Tate Stine-Smith with a fifth place finish in the high jump (five feet, eight inches), and an 11th place finish by Nick Lindgren in the discuss (115’-0”).

Next on the docket for the Tiger boys track team will include their first home meet of the season with the Hugh Norman Coed Relays Tuesday, April 3rd. A-D-M will welcome in a seven team field including conference opponents Carlisle, and Winterset along with Clarke, Dallas Center-Grimes, Nevada, Norwalk, and Van Meter. Field events will kick things off beginning at 4:30 pm.
