Strong winds and the threat of heavy rain certainly didn’t help the cause of the Dallas Center-Grimes boys’ golf team Wednesday afternoon during the Little Hawkeye Conference meet.
Set within the scenic confines of the Grinnell College Golf Course, the Mustangs battled seven other conference opponents and the weather and came out with a sixth place finish. That finish came courtesy of a team score of 333 while first place Indianola scored a 304.
Through less than ideal conditions, the pair of Nick Towne and Keegan Bianchi led the Mustang bunch, both with 18 hole rounds of 82. That score marked Towne’s season best while Bianchi fell just two strokes off of his season low 18 hole score. The pair of 82’s were just outside the mark to earn all conference which for the meet Wednesday was 80.
Dallas Center-Grimes’ normal go to golfer in Derek Shanno had a solid five par day despite the conditions and followed the tandem of Bianchi and Towne with an 18 hole score of 84. The Mustang scorecard was rounded out with Tate Calease putting up an season low score of 85 while the non-scoring scores included a 92 from Darren Werth and a 95 from Carter Bowen.
Next up on the docket for the Mustangs will be another 18 hole endeavor as they head the Ames Golf & Country Club on Saturday, May 5 beginning at 9 a.m.
