It was quite the successful weekend for the Van Meter softball team who took two wins in three games on Saturday, June 23 in Greenfield.


The Bulldogs were up against Orient-Macksburg, Coon Rapids-Bayard, and Earlham. Van Meter broke out 11 hits to push across 11 runs against Coon Rapids-Bayard in an 11-0 abbreviated win. The Bulldogs also took a decisive win over Orient-Macksburg by the final of 14-1.


In their only loss of the weekend, Van Meter fell to Earlham by a 7-4 final. The Cardinals held an early 3-0 lead after three innings before the Bulldogs equalized the game in the fourth inning. Where the game turned south for Van Meter was in the sixth inning where Earlham broke out four runs to eventually win by a 7-4 final.


Van Meter did put forth nine hits in the game but also suffered seven strikeouts in the process. The 12th ranked Bulldogs are now 19-5 on the season. Their path continues Monday, June 25 with a home match up against Class 2A’s third ranked Des Moines Christian.
