For the third straight game, the A-D-M softball team broke out the long ball as they took two out of three from the season series against Winterset Monday night.

The current Class 4A fourth ranked Tigers welcomed in the defending Class 4A champion Huskies to town and defeated Winterset by a 4-1 final. The win actually won the Tigers the two game regular season series over the Huskies with the only loss coming on Saturday, May 26 in Winterset.

Monday night, the Tigers won in similar fashion to their 5-2 win over the Huskies the last time out. Winterset was the first to strike, adding a run in the second which was quickly answered by a three run bottom of the second by A-D-M. Olivia Tollari connected on her first high school home run and did so on a two strike count to give the Tigers the lead 3-1. Ashley Tennant provided the other firepower for the Tigers with a solo blast to left in the sixth inning.

That home run officially gave the senior her 11th home run of the season which continues to mark an impressive senior season for Tennant. Head coach Rick Dillinger has been pleased with Tennant and notes that it’s not just the hitting that has helped the senior to succeed so much this season.

“Believe it or not after having the season she did last year she’s still improving every day,” began Dillinger. “The thing that makes Ashley so good is the fact that she’s a leader in the dugout as well as at the plate. She needed to step up into that role and she’s done a good job, always helping and encouraging her teammates. She’s also picked up the catching position real well so far.”

Tennant and Tollari collected three of the teams’ seven total hits on the evening. Meanwhile inside the circle, Abbie Hlas shut the door on a talented Husky offense, allowing just four hits and three walks. Hlas fought hard and did damage early with over 60 percent of first pitches counting as strikes. In total the sophomore added five more strikeouts to her total, giving her 259 on the year. It also marked just the fifth time all season long where Hlas has thrown five or fewer strikeouts in a game.

The Tigers will now be taking to the road for a four game road stand, starting in Chariton on Tuesday, June 26.
