It was the home opener Thursday night for the ADM Tiger volleyball team and they kicked off their home stand against a five team field including Gilbert, Nevada, Norwalk, Woodward-Granger, and Perry.

The Tigers claimed a 3-2 record on the evening to place third throughout the tournament with wins over Perry, Gilbert, and Woodward-Granger while falling to Nevada and Norwalk.

The first match-up out of the gate for the Tigers came against a tough Nevada team who defeated ADM in three sets 2-1. The Tigers showed great teammwork and skill but couldn’t consistently put it together in set one coming no closer than six points down at any one point, and would fall in set one 21-14. Set two was a much more consistent approach for the Tigers who won 21-17, but then could not bring it all full circle, losing set three 15-7.

It was a competitive match up against Woodward-Granger as well with the Hawks keeping all sets close. ADM pulled out a set one win late 21-19 before falling heavily with a 21-11 set two loss. The Tigers dusted themselves off and held off a Hawks rally that began with ADM up 10-5 and ended in a narrow 15-13 ADM victory.

The Perry match-up proved to be a bit easier for the Tigers who took set one by a 21-6 margin while obtaining yet another fast start in set two for the 21-13 set win. Delaney Bertman was big in the tournament and especially the Perry contest where she recorded five kills, three assists, three digs, and two aces for the match.

The third win of the day for ADM came against Gilbert in three sets with ADM staking claim to set one 21-11, Gilbert claimed set two 21-10, all while the Tigers shut the door for the win in set three 15-9. Abbie Hlas posted ten digs and once ace while Josi Lonneman totaled 11 kills, three digs, and two aces in the match up. Leading assists leader for the contest was Morgan Meyer with 12.

The Tigers’ second loss on the night came against Norwalk in a 2-1 defeat.

The Tigers are now 4-5 on the young season and will continue on their volleyball ways with another match up on the hardwood against Perry in Adel on Tuesday, September 4.
