In a tough battle in the waters, the Waukee girls’ swimming team fell short in their match-up against Ankeny High School on Tuesday, August 28. In a tough contest, the Warrior girls fell by the final of 113-17.
In the second event of the evening, the 200 medley relay, the group of Eve Wiltse, Emily Hamling, Anna Hamling, and Sophia Hueser took home second place and four points with a time of 1:52.37. Elle Kramer and Izzy Stevens claimed team points in the 200 Free event where Kramer’s time of 2:04.96 earned her fourth place and two points while Stevens’ time of 2:05.24 placed her fifth and gave her one point.
The Warrior girls added in some much needed team points in the 200 IM. Anna Hamling, who placed third at state in the event last season, placed first and earned six points with her time of 2:11.26. Maddie Kemp and Sophia Hueser also took home team points placing third and fifth respectively and earning four points combined.
Hamling was pretty busy in multiple events and also participated in the 100 meter Fly where she placed third individually and earned three points to the cause. She was followed by Eve Wiltse who placed fourth with two points and Maddie Kemp who placed fifth and earned one point. Wiltse herself also took home a second place finish in the 100 backstroke event thanks to her time of 1:03.30
Senior Layne Collum took home a second place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 26.17 seconds followed by Emma Fulton with a time of 26.50 seconds for two team points. Collum also took on the 100 Free event and placed fourth to give Waukee two more points. The senior also joined up with Kemp, Kramer, and Hueser to place second as a team in the 200 Free Relay event. The group earned four team points thanks to their collective time of 1:44.03.
In the 1 Meter Dives, freshman Quincie Clayton took home second place and four team points followed by Mia Monaco with three points and Grace Palmer who finished fourth with two points.
Meanwhile in the 500 Free event, sophomore Carly Olney took third and earned three team points followed by Maia Bumgardner in fourth with two points, and Izzy Stevens in fifth earning one point.
Other events of note for the Warriors included the 100 meter breastroke event where Elle Kramer claimed the top spot and six points after finishing with a time of 1:11.76, just a second off of her season best last season. The 400 meter free relay team of Collum, Wiltse, Hueser, and Hamling took second with a time of 3:49.81.
Next meet for the Warrior girls will be Tuesday, September 4 as they will be taking on Mason City in Waukee starting at 5 p.m.
