No one performed better on the cross country course Thursday evening as the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ cross country team claimed victory in their home opening meet.
Against an eleven team field, the Fillies claimed first place on the strength of four top 15 place winners. Overall the team earned 65 points and a team average time of 21:50.09, just over a minute off of their state meet time last season.
Freshman phenom Hannah Little paced the way for the Fillies after placing sixth overall with a time of 21:04.8. She was followed by returning letter winner Emma Angus who’s time of 21:16.4 placed her eighth out of 161 runners. The sophomore pair in Nicole Merical and Miranda Muhlstein took home 11th and 15th place respectively with times of 21:45.4 and 22:14.4. Sami Sterbenz wasn’t too far off of her state meet time from a year prior, placing 25th with a time of 22:53.3. The scoring for DC-G rounded out with senior Grace Robbins in 32nd with a time of 23:04.7 and Madalyn Haupts in 34th with a time of 23:25.3.
It’s the first victory of the season for the Fillies and they will look for a repeat performance when they hit the course next on Tuesday, September 4 at the Lakeview Country Club in Winterset, beginning at 5 p.m.
