Even though the 2018 football season has come and gone, the accolades are still rolling in for Iowa High School football teams, most recently in the form of Academic All-State honors.


Within the Dallas County News coverage area 13 players earned such honors. Within the Class 1A ranks, there were three Van Meter football stars who earned Academic All-State honors including seniors Cameron Smolik, Sam Bardwell, and Spencer Lamb who also earned a first team All-State defensive selection for Class 1A.


Within Class 3A there were four local members including three from ADM High School with the likes of seniors Spencer Collins, Lucas Heitz, and second team All-State defensive selection Nick Bradshaw. There was also one Dallas Center-Grimes football player earning such Academic All-State honors in senior Austin James.


As for the Class 4A high school football ranks, the Waukee Warriors had six players earn Academic All-State honors in seniors Nathan Brush, Zach Eaton, Blake Espeland, Evan Gray, Mason Hale, and Trey Hardy. Eaton was also a second team All-State defensive member.
