It’s that time where the eighth annual Dab Gable Mr. Wrestler of the Year award cuts the field in half to the top seven in each weight class.
Within the Dallas County News coverage area, three wrestlers continue to move on in the standings with enough votes to move on to the second round. Those individuals would be Waukee’s 170 pound wrestler and Class 3A’s top 170 pound wrestler Anthony Zach, and in Class 2A, the top 126 pound wrestler in Andrew Flora from ADM, and Cody Fisher who ranks as the top Class 2A 220 pound wrestler.
Within the round of seven wrestlers per class, fan voting will continue to be a part of the overall count although there will be some changes. Fan votes will count as one vote towards the IWCOA’s committee votes in each round. That will then lead to a reduction of three finalists and all finalists will be invited to the season end luncheon gala in late February, where a winner will be announced in each class.
Currently in the Class 2A rankings, Andrew Flora leads the pack with 26.37 percent of the voting (785 votes) while Woodward-Granger’s Cody Fisher rests with 5.5 percent of the votes (164 votes). In Class 3A, Anthony Zach from Waukee has jumped up to fourth in the voting with 10.36 percent of the voting equating to 279 total votes.
