It was an overtime thriller in Huxley Iowa Thursday night between the ADM Tigers and the Ballard Bombers boys’ basketball team. Unfortunately for ADM, what was a strong start ended in a 63-61 defeat.
ADM blew past their average of 13 points per first quarter by posting 20 against the Bombers. The Tigers then tied with the hometown Bombers at 12-12 to head into the halftime break with a 32-30 advantage. The game continued on in ADM’s favor after they outscored Ballard 16-12 in the third quarter, giving them a 48-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately, the final quarter wouldn’t be as kind for the Tigers who scored a single quarter low two points, giving host Ballard enough room to capture eight points and tie the the game up as the final fourth quarter seconds ticked away. That sent the game into overtime where it actually took two bouts of bonus action to decide a victor after both teams ended the fist overtime session all tied up at 56. It was then that the Bombers would edge out the Tigers in the second overtime frame to take the eventual win.
The loss drops the Tigers record to 7-6 overall and 5-3 inside Raccoon River Conference play. The next round of action for the Tigers will be a home contest against Winterset as ADM looks to sweep the season series on Tuesday, January 22.
