It was one of their toughest opponents of the season so far, yet the fourth ranked Van Meter boys’ basketball team still managed to capture a win, doing so by a 51-42 margin over Kuemper Catholic of Carroll.

It was a fairly even match-up throughout as Kuemper Catholic narrowly edged out Van Meter in field goal scoring 17 to 16 while the Knights narrowly edging the Bulldogs in three point shots made, four-to-three. The biggest difference on the night came from the free throw line where Van Meter quadrupled the point total from the charity stripe. Out of the 22 free throw attempts set by Van Meter, the Bulldogs connected on 16 meanwhile Kuemper Catholic managed just four all game long.

Junior Anthony Potthoff had a season best night consisting of 25 points scored on 8-of-11 field goal shooting and three-of-five from beyond the three point arc. Potthoff was also nearly perfect from the free throw line, connecting on six-of-eight. Senior Ryan Schmitt also delivered on another consecutive double figure scoring night with 14 points on 4-of-12 field goal shooting and six-of-nine shooting from the free throw line. For the fifth consecutive contest, Schmitt also led the team in rebounds with ten on the night.

The win gives the Bulldogs a still unblemished record of 14-0.
