To say it was a successful start to the outdoor season for DC-G girls track may be an understatement especially with their home opener Tuesday afternoon at the Early Bird Meet held at DC-G Stadium.


Nineteen top-five finishes highlighted the day for the Fillies on a cold and windy afternoon in Grimes. Of those 19 top-five finishes, seven of those came by way of first place variety. Of those seven, three came from the team relay events starting with the 4x100 meter relay event. The Fillies posted a first-place time of 53.58 seconds which was followed by a first-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay thanks to a time of 10:15.49. Out of six total entries in the distance medley relay, the Fillies clocked in nearly six full seconds ahead of second place thanks to a time of 4:42.62.


It was quite the day for Sarah Frett who walked away with two individual first-place finishes including the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump event. In the long jump, Frett bested 18 other jumpers with a mark of 16-00.25 while her mark of 15.66 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles also became a first-place performance. Natalie Paulson showed off her speed on the distance side of things as she placed first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:16.53. Paulson for the second straight season captured a top-five finish in the 1500 and this season, she bested a group of 33 runners to take the crown. Hannah Little, fellow star on the cross country team, put forth a third-place finish thanks to a time of 5:23.75.


Tristyn Paup came close to capturing a first-place finish herself in the 100-meter dash clocking in with a time of 13.77 seconds. Meanwhile, Hanna Ashley captured a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, courtesy of clocked in time of 28.71 seconds.


After a volleyball season to remember, senior Dakota Miles took the the track scene this year and in the home opener of the season, captured a fifth-place finish in the discus event with a mark of 87-02 which she one-upped in the shot put with a second-place finish thanks to a toss of 33’-03”.


Diving further into the relay events, the Fillies posted a second place finish in the 4x200 meter dash with a time of 1:56.32 and in fact owned three of the top seven times in that event across three different groups. The Fillies foursome in the 4x400 meter relay placed second with a time of 4:30.62 while the 800 sprint medley relay team captured a second place finish with a time of 2:02.58.


Next up for the Fillies will be a trip to Adel on Tuesday, April 2 for the Hugh Norman Coed Relays. The Fillies will be among a field of seven different teams such as Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Clarke, Nevada, Van Meter, Winterset, and host ADM. Events will begin at 4:30 p.m.
