It was a season opener to remember for the Dallas Center-Grimes girls golf team Saturday, April 6 as they claimed first place in the invitational in Perry.

DC-G was involved in a six-team field involving Dowling Catholic, Norwalk, Humboldt, Lincoln, and host Perry. A big reason for the strong outing came from the duo of Lydia Steier and Aubree Klug. Steier captured her career best 18 hole score of 88 which just missed out on first place for the meet by four strokes. Humboldt’s Frances Carlson was the only individual to best Steier for the meet. A big push for Steier came in the back nine where she posted one of the best nine-hole scores of her career with a five-over-par mark of 42.

Aubree Klug also put together one of her better 18 hole outings, walking away with a fourth place overall finish of 94. Both Steier and Klug had very strong front nine performances with a pair of nine-over-par marks of 46. Klug herself then went through some minor struggles on the back nine but still came away with a fourth-place finish.

Emerson Kleis put forth a nice 18 hole round performance, carding a 51 through the front nine and a 12-over par mark of 49 across the back nine. Kaylin Petrak carded a two-round score of 105 while Annagrace Dalbey and Morgan Stork rounded out the varsity scoring with marks of 115 and 121 respectively.

After the strong start, the Fillies will now be hitting the road this afternoon as they travel to the Indianola Country Club for an in-conference battle beginning at 3:30 p.m.
