In what was arguably their best performance of the season, the Dallas Center-Grimes boys golf team officially punched their ticket to the district round after placing second at the sectional tournament in Ames Friday, May 10.


The Mustangs bested their team 18 hole average with a score of 325 Friday and thus, punched their ticket to the Spencer Golf & Country Club on Thursday, May 17.


Senior Derek Shanno led the pack with an 18 hole score of 75 which earned him the fourth best score within the sectional field. In total, two of DC-G’s starting roster earned season-best scores for the meet including Darren Werth who captured an 18 hole round of 81. Following Werth was Keegan Bianchi who carded a round of 83.


Carter Bown carded a round of 86 while Brody Stilies and Ethan Blum rounded out the scores with marks of 93 and 98.


The district meet for DC-G in Spencer will begin May 17 at 9:30 a.m.
