The season may be over but the accolades continue to roll in for the season that was for the 2019 DC-G softball team.

Recently the Little Hawkeye Conference released their all-conference selections and for Dallas Center-Grimes, one of three conference teams to make the state tournament, six of their own were awarded all-conference honors.

In total two Fillie stars earned first-team honors followed by two-second team selections and one honorable mention. The two first-team selections for the Fillies included infielder Kamryn O’Brien and fellow junior star Molly Cooney. Both were deemed first-team All-Conference unanimous selections. O’Brien during her junior campaign ended in a three-way tie for the conference lead in hits as she slugged 30 on the season. She was a beacon of consistency that was certainly not lost on head coach Steve Schlafke.

“For so many games this season this team knew they could count on Kamryn getting a hit and getting on base,” began Schlafke. “She’s been a huge spark for this offense in the three spot all season.”

O’Brien also recorded the most putouts during the conference season with 297.

Molly Cooney was close behind O’Brien with 47 hits on the season, fifth-most inside the conference. Cooney was quite the efficient batter striking 39 RBI on the season, second-most inside the conference. Cooney averaged just over one RBI per game this season.

The two second-team All-Conference selections belonged to sophomore Kylie Merical and senior Lauren Osborn. Merical recorded 44 hits in her sophomore season while batting .336 overall. Merical led the Fillies by crossing the plate 27 times over the course of the season, meanwhile recording 24 runs driven in off of her bat. The sophomore also led the Fillies in assists with 87. Senior Lauren Osborn struck for 32 hits on the season and accounted for 13 of DC-G’s RBI’s for 2019. Osborn was a solid defender as well accounting for 73 assists and 112 putouts for 2019.

The honorable mention honorees for DC-G went to Morgan Rosenbeck and Erica Manning
