After a marvelous season put them just one game shy of the state tournament, two ADM High School softball stars were recently honored with All-State selections.

Among the 40 individuals who graced the All-State list the two from the ADM Tigers included pitchers Abbie Hlas and Aliya Yanga. It seemed quite fitting that Hlas and Yanga would earn All-State honors. They have been ADM’s one-two-punch all season long and gave first-year head coach Jodi Doty a lot of firepowers to work with.

“Having two great girls like Abbie and Aliya have been a blessing for me this season,” said Doty. “They have been each others, top supporters, all season long. Whenever we’ve needed to give Abbie a break from pitching we haven’t lost any sleep knowing that Aliya has the skills to limit teams.”

Abbie Hlas was deemed a first-team All-State player after dominating on both sides of the ball. Inside the circle, Hlas posted another top 25 strikeout season as her 165 K’s ranked her 15th in all of Class 4A. Hlas ended the year with a 1.32 ERA with opponents having a routinely tough time batting just .158 against the junior hurler. Inside the batter’s box, Hlas was equally as dominant blasting 56 hits with an amazing .554 batting average. Hlas was top 20 in extra-base hits (22) on the season while slugging .911 on the season which ranks third in Class 4A and 21st across the entire state of Iowa.

Yanga was an effective piece to the puzzle as well blasting a .394 batting average with 37 hits and 21 RBI for the season. Yanga was right behind Hlas in doubles notching 12 on the season. Inside the circle, the Tigers didn’t give up any effectiveness when Yanga was pitching. With a 2.42 ERA, Yanga dished out 84 strikeouts while walking just 31 batters all season long. For her efforts, Yanga received a third-team All-State selection.
