The Waukee boys golf team kicked off their first invitational meet of the 2019 season Monday morning as they traveled to Hunters Ridge Golf Course to take on a 12 team field.
Out of the 12 team field, the Warriors captured a team score of 314 which was good enough for second place behind only Washington who carded a team score of 308.
Within the Warrior lineup, it was Jack Starr who paced the team by carding an 18-hole round of 72 which marked a season-low for the junior. Starr had the lowest front-nine score as he himself set a career-low nine-hole mark with a score of 33. He then followed that up with a back-nine score of 39.
Matthew O’Brien followed Starr with a front-nine score of 36 followed by a back nine score of 43 for an 18-hole total of 79. Both Josh Nichols and Jack Utsler carded 18-hole scores of 83 followed by Charlie Steer with an 18-hole score of 80 and Payton Sandfort with a mark of 90 to round out the Warrior scores.
Next up for the 12-1 Warriors will be another invitational style contest where they will take to the Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, August 22 to battle a 16 team field. It will be the second multi-team invitational contest of the season for the Warriors. Following the invite, Waukee will then take on a one-on-one contest against Southeast Polk at Copper Creek Golf Course on Thursday, August 29.
