After a solid start to the 2019 campaign, the ADM volleyball team took a slight step back Thursday night as they dropped three matches in their home tournament in Adel.

ADM welcomed in a five team field of Atlantic, future Raccoon River Conference and 11th ranked Gilbert, Nevada, Class 4A ninth ranked Norwalk, and Woodward-Granger. The Tigers themselves took on the likes of Nevada, Atlantic, Gilbert, and Norwalk. ADM took home three losses and one win from the tournament, falling to Nevada, Gilbert, and Norwalk while capturing their lone victory of the tournament against Atlantic by 2-1 fashion.

The action started off with a one-on-one match-up with Nevada and unfortunately found some rough waters as they fell in two straight sets 21-11 and 21-12. Those losses came despite a 7-5 run by ADM in set one and a similar run in set two. Slightly better outcomes were had in the outings against Gilbert and Norwalk taking both matches to three sets before eventually falling. The Tigers overcame a 21-13 set one loss to Gilbert and won with late effort in set two 21-17. Unfortunately a slow start out of the gate in set three sealed the fate for the Tigers who fell 15-8.

Similar momentum was had in the Norwalk match as an extra point set one resulted in an ADM victory 24-22. Unfortunately, in similar fashion to the Gilbert contest, the Tigers couldn’t sustain that momentum and fell in set two 21-16 and a heartbreaking 15-13 set three loss.

The lone victory for the Tigers came against Atlantic and it was in that match-up where late momentum saved the day. A not-so-great start ended up aiding in a 21-13 set one loss but the Tigers rallied together and won in extra frames with a 22-20 set two win and polished it off with a 15-8 set three victory.

Following tournament action, the Tigers are now 3-6 on the young season and will seek to get right back into their winning ways when they resume action on Tuesday, Sep. 10. It will be a one-on-one conference showdown with the Perry Jayettes at 7 p.m.
