Brandon Brittain fanned 17 to lead Van Meter past Ogden 4-1 on Monday, the team’s seventh victory in eight games this season.

Brittain went the distance, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk. Jake Chevalier doubled, walked and drove in two.

The Bulldogs split a pair of games at a tournament in Colfax on June 1, beating Southeast Warren 12-2 but falling to Albia 12-10. Brittain was 3-for-3 against Southeast Warren with a homer and two RBIs, Kurt Sankey doubled and drove in a run and Jeremy Helmick scored twice as the Bulldogs posted a six-run first inning. Jake Eslick picked up the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and six walks.

Van Meter staked itself to a six-run first inning, but saw Albia score in six of the seven frames, including six runs over the final two innings. Brittain was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, Helmick doubled, scored twice and drove in three and Chevalier had two RBIs. Three Bulldog pitchers surrendered 12 hits, five walks and nine earned runs.

The Bulldogs also beat Madrid 12-1 in six innings on MAy 31. Brittain was 3-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored and Ben Engstrand was 2-for-4 with two runs and two driven in. Cody Blackwell allowed just one hit and one walk over five innings while striking out four.
