The Hawks had a rough go of it at the first Phil Creese Classic on June 15. W-G opened with narrow losses of 8-7 to Saydel and of 10-9 to Pekin before being blanked by a stout Sergeant Bluff-Luton team, 11-0, in five innings.
In other games at the event, SB-L topped Panorama, 10-3, Pekin defeated Panorama, 13-3, and Saydel beat Pekin, 13-7, and Panorama, 12-3.
The Hawks were the visiting team in all three games on their home diamond, and found themselves in an 8-5 hole against Saydel after four innings of play. W-G crossed the plate twice in the top of the fifth and had runners aboard in other frames but could not complete the comeback and fell to the Eagles, who they had topped, 7-4, at the Graves Classic in Perry June 1.
Bice had a double and a home run with four RBIs, with Soelberg driving in two runs on a single and a double. Bandstra, Major, Evans and Jack each had hits for W-G, with Major contributing a RBI while Evans scored three runs to highlight the offense.
Jordyn Achenbach took the loss in the ring after yielding eight runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Lizzy Miklus and Danielle Epp both had a double and two RBIs for the Eagles, with Katelyn McEachron also hitting a double.
Annika Hofbauer picked up the win after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and four walks. She finished with eight strikeouts.
Pekin scored three times in the third and once in the fourth to tie their game with W-G at 5-all, with two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth giving the Panthers a 7-5 lead.
The Hawks responded with four runs in their final at-bat to snatch a 9-7 edge but could not close the door, as Pekin crossed the dish three times in two outs to steal the victory.
Bice was the losing pitcher. She allowed 10 runs on 12 hits and three walks while fanning four, but four of the Pekin runs were unearned.
Webb, Jack, Evans, Bice, Bandstra and Lesch all had two hits, with Webb hitting a double and a triple and Jack, Bandstra and Lesch doubles while Bice had a home run.
Cheyann Lankford had two singles and a double for Pekin to aid her own cause off the rubber. She threw all seven innings, yielding nine runs (two were unearned) on 15 hits and two walks while tallying three strikeouts.
SB-L junior Miles Ludwigs was her own best friend in the Warriors 11-0 win over the Hawks. She blanked W-G on five hits and two walks with one strikeout and was 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs while scoring three times.
Bice, Major, Webb, Lesch and Miranda Aunspach each had singles for the Hawks, with Evans and Bandstra drawing walks.
Achenbach suffered the loss, surrendering 11 runs on 14 hits and four walks in 4-1/3 innings in the circle. She struck out two batters, with one of the Warrior runs unearned.

WOODWARD — A seven-run first inning did enough damage as W-G scored an 11-6 win over West Central Valley in WCC action June 13.
W-G scored once in the third, with both teams plating two runs in the fourth as the score moved to 10-2 in favor of the hosts. The Wildcats closed to within 10-6 with four runs in the top of the fifth, but the Hawks countered with a run in the bottom of the frame to set the final score.
Webb, Jack, Bandstra and Lesch had two hits apiece for the Hawks, with Evans, Bice and Major adding hits. Evans had the lone double for W-G, with Bice providing a home run and three RBIs. Webb and Lesch drove in two runs apiece, while Evans and Major had one RBI each.
Bice went 6-1/3 innings to earn the win, allowing three runs on three hits while Achenbach yielded three runs on one hit. The former allowed two walks and the latter three, with Bice striking out three.
Jess Pieper was touched for 11 runs on 11 hits. She struck out one batter and issued eight walks.
